Junior Mentor Program
The Junior Mentor Program provides an opportunity for Marian freshmen students to get to know upperclassmen while finding support and encouragement in their mentors. Sophomores who are interested in becoming Junior Mentors complete the application process in the spring. This includes a written application, two teacher recommendations, and a Marian activities resume. The Mentor Committee then chooses the most qualified candidates to participate in the program for the following year.
Junior Mentors are each assigned two or three freshmen students to mentor during the school year. Each Junior Mentor makes contact with her freshmen over the summer prior to their arrival at Marian and spends the day with them at the Freshman Retreat in August. Throughout the year the freshmen meet with their mentors on a monthly basis to discuss topics relevant to life at Marian at that particular time. This program provides support and encouragement for freshmen and allows Junior Mentors the opportunity to gain confidence and build leadership skills.
