Activities

Dances, laughter, school spirit, and a whole lot of fun are all a major part of life at Marian. Nothing revs up spirit like participation in activities such as Field Day and Senior Football. Walkathon is a major all-school fundraiser for local non-profit organizations, and Candlelight is a sentimental rite of passage at Marian. Students become closer to their families through several Dad/Daughter and Mother/Daughter activities held throughout the year while dances and other activities, both casual and formal, are often the highlight of the school year.

  • Dances

Marian High School currently hosts two dances during the school year. Both the Christmas Dance in December and the Junior/Senior Prom in the spring are held off the Marian campus.
  • Field Day

Field Day is most alums' fondest memory of their time at Marian.  It is a day away from the normal “readin’, writin’, and ’rithmetic” and an opportunity for students to become involved in community and class-building activities. Friendships grow, and pride in each class is strengthened.  Each class determines its theme for the event; the theme is then incorporated into every facet of the day including t-shirt and costume designs, songwriting contests, parades, and banner contests.

Every year, classes put in weeks of preparation to earn the bragging rights of being named Field Day Champions!
  • Senior Football

Senior Football is a 30+ year tradition which begins for seniors with daily practices on the Marian playing fields in August and ends with one flag football game against perennial rival Regina High School in September. Senior Football builds Senior Class and school spirit and might just end with the coveted gold football trophy which is handed off to the winning school each year.

The Marian Dads’ Club sponsors a Senior Football Tailgate on Feldman Field before cheering the team on to victory. Marian alumnae, recent and not-so-recent, as well as students from all grade levels and their families travel across town to witness this annual, spirited game.
  • Walkathon

Marian’s annual Walkathon, sponsored by the All School Board, is held each May. Students obtain pledges and walk a six-mile route through nearby neighborhoods to raise money to support local charities.
  • Candlelight

Candlelight is an annual end-of-the-year tradition where seniors pass the leadership torch, a lit candle, to the juniors in exchange for a rose. While the candle symbolizes leadership, the rose represents friendship. Candlelight is the first time the seniors wear their caps and gowns; this ceremony, filled with songs and speeches about the bonds formed at Marian, marks the beginning of graduation activities.
  • Dad/Daughter Activities

The number one mission of the Marian Dads’ Club is to organize events that bring dads and their daughters together! During the school year, the Dads’ Club will host the Senior Football Kickoff Party and the Father/Daughter Liturgy and Breakfast; the Father/Daughter Christmas Party in December; the Father/Daughter Service Project in the spring; and the Father/Daughter Tiger Game. While supporting the school in many different ways, the Dads' Club continues to emphasize events to bring dads and daughters together.
  • Mother/Daughter Activities

The Mothers’ Club sponsors activities throughout the year for Marian moms and their daughters to share that special bonding time together. Among the many mother/daughter activities at Marian are the Mother/Daughter Liturgy and Brunch, Mother/Daughter Yoga, and the Mother/Daughter Social Event. It’s not unusual to see Marian students working alongside their moms at activities such as Benefit Evening, Open House, and various hospitality events.
  • Alumnae/Student Activities

Marian’s Alumnae Association sponsors activities where they interact with current students throughout the school year. Freshmen are welcomed to Marian with the Alumnae Freshmen Breakfast in the fall.  Alumnae welcome graduating seniors into the Alumnae Association with the Alumnae Senior Luncheon which is held off-site.

Alumnae also participate in STEM Career night, NHS Induction, and lend their expertise to clubs as requested by the students.
