Alumnae Association Raises Funds for Dolores Chapman Scholarship through Annual Shopping Night

The Marian Alumnae Association hosted a shopping night in November to benefit the alumnae-sponsored Dolores Chapman Memorial Scholarship. The shopping night, hosted by Kristin Turner Degenhardt '04 and Jackie Nagle '07, was held at two shops, SHE and Ruby’s Balm, located next to each other in Bloomfield Township. Alumnae, alum moms, current moms, and friends attended this fun evening. Highlights included a door prize drawing for three lucky winners with prizes generously donated by the two shops. A special thank you to all who participated in the event's success.

The Marian Alumnae Association established the Dolores Chapman Scholarship to honor its founder Dolores Chapman, who died in 1989. Mrs. Chapman was the first Director of Alumnae Relations at Marian. Through her efforts, the Alumnae Association and The Marian Monitor were established. Her dream was to ensure that Marian provides quality value-based education and experiences for young women. Each year, the Alumnae Association awards this endowed scholarship to a deserving rising sophomore to continue her education at Marian. The scholarship is a one-time, non-renewable award of $4,800 recognizing a freshman's service to her school and community. The scholarship contributes to the total amount of scholarship money awarded annually at Marian, over $164,000.

For a gift of at least $50,000, Marian will establish an individually named scholarship which allows the initiator to participate in establishing the scholarship’s name and award criteria, along with participating in the award selection process. For information on establishing a new Marian scholarship or making a gift to the Scholarship Fund, contact the Advancement office at (248) 644-1946 or advancement@marian-hs.org.
