Congratulations to Marian English and Fine and Performing Arts teacher Kelly Davis on earning her Doctoral Degree in Education (Ed.D) in Leadership for Organizations! Marian commends Mrs. Davis for her dedication to academic excellence and the determination she has demonstrated in achieving this remarkable milestone. We had the pleasure of speaking with Mrs. Davis to learn more about her journey and motivations behind her pursuit of her doctoral degree:
What inspired you to pursue a doctoral degree?
“I became a teacher to try to create a positive nurturing environment for my students and peers. I feel like I have been able to do that and have seen the positive impact it has had on my past students in their lives. Now I want to expand that and help to create that for all educational spaces, and I felt like I needed more knowledge to make that happen.”
What was the most challenging part of earning your doctorate? How did you push through?
“The most challenging part was balancing my time to do everything. I had to find a really strict schedule to get everything accomplished every week. School and work have been my whole life for the past three years.”
How has earning your doctorate reshaped your perspective on education and your professional field?
“I have a greater understanding of all the research out there on best practices and how to continue that research in my own work. I feel more confident in what we can do in education and know that creating the environment I dream of for all students and educational professionals is possible.”
What new skills or insights did you gain during your doctoral studies that you’re excited to apply?
“I have learned more about why people make the decisions they do, work the way they do, and what motivates people, and how I can utilize that knowledge to help my community. I have also learned how to do research and analyze data in a more effective way than I had before to make a positive change.”
How will you celebrate achieving this milestone?
“I am going to Disney World in February to celebrate!”
Mrs. Davis’s achievement and unwavering determination exemplify the commitment Marian educators have to enhancing their teaching and leadership skills. Her success inspires both colleagues and students alike, showcasing the value of perseverance and lifelong learning. Once again, congratulations, Mrs. Davis!
