Big Sis + Little Sis Tradition Begins for Class of 2030
One of Marian’s most special traditions officially began for the Class of 2030 this week as freshmen met their Big Sisters for the first time.
Waiting to welcome them were members of the junior class, each holding a decorated sign created especially for her new Little Sis. After finding one another, the new Big Sis + Little Sis pairs spent time getting acquainted, touring the school, picking up House T-shirts, taking photos, and beginning a relationship that will be a special part of their Marian experience.
Through Marian’s Big Sis + Little Sis program, each freshman is paired with a junior who serves as a mentor and friendly face as she begins high school. Big and Little Sisters are members of the same House and connect regularly through activities and shared experiences.
The program gives freshmen a built-in source of support and guidance while giving juniors an opportunity to grow as leaders. The tradition eventually comes full circle when Little Sisters become juniors and welcome freshmen of their own!

Marian student-athletes joined students from across the Detroit Catholic High School League on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Detroit for a special Mass marking the start of the league’s centennial celebration.

The Marian Rice Collective kicked off a new school year with its first meeting, bringing students from Marian and Brother Rice together to reconnect and begin planning for the months ahead.

This past week, Marian students, faculty, and staff gathered for the first All-School Mass of the year, celebrated by our new chaplain, Fr. Karl Finkbeiner.

Marian’s first all-school assembly helped set the tone for a new year. To kick things off, sophomores, juniors, and seniors lined the main corridor to clap in the freshman class before heading into the auditorium. It was a sea of color with students wearing bright T-shirts representing one of Marian’s six Houses: Crown, Shield, Mary, Cross, Dove, and Flame.

A Marian senior tradition brought a burst of color and lots of creativity to campus as members of the Class of 2027 gathered to paint their parking spots.

For Marian seniors, football season starts long before game day. The Class of 2027 has taken to the field for summer practices, preparing for one of Marian’s longstanding traditions – Senior Football.

Marian High School joins the IHM Sisters in celebrating two women with special connections to Marian who are marking milestone Jubilees this year: Sister Lenore Pochelski, IHM, celebrating 60 years as a religious, and Sister Maxine Kollasch, IHM, celebrating 25 years.
For the IHM Sisters, Jubilees are a time to honor Sisters marking milestone anniversaries of religious life. This year, 20 IHM Sisters representing a combined 1,011 years of ministry were honored during a weekend of Jubilee festivities, including a special liturgy on Saturday, July 25.

Though his five years at Marian represent only a small chapter in a remarkable 48-year career, they are years he remembers fondly because of the students and colleagues who made Marian feel like home.
