Marian Joins Catholic League in Centennial Celebration

Marian student-athletes joined students from across the Detroit Catholic High School League on Thursday, Sept. 3, at Most Holy Redeemer Church in Detroit for a special Mass marking the start of the league’s centennial celebration.

Presided over by the Most Reverend Edward J. Weisenburger, Archbishop of Detroit, the Mass brought together student-athletes from Catholic schools throughout the region to give thanks for 100 years of faith, competition, and Catholic education.

Founded in 1926, the Catholic High School League has a long tradition of bringing student-athletes together through interscholastic athletics while emphasizing character, faith, and sportsmanship. Today, the CHSL is the largest Catholic high school athletic league in the country.

Mustangs representing many of Marian’s athletic teams attended the Centennial Mass, joining fellow student-athletes in celebrating a tradition of Catholic school athletics that has spanned generations.

The Mass officially kicked off a yearlong celebration of the CHSL’s 100th anniversary. Centennial events planned throughout the 2026–27 school year will recognize the league’s history, its student-athletes, and the schools and individuals who have shaped Catholic League athletics over the past century.

For Marian, the celebration offered an opportunity for today’s Mustangs to take part in a historic milestone and honor a Catholic League tradition that has been an important part of the Marian experience for decades.
