Marian Names Dunya Atisha, MD, FACS ’94 as 2026 Distinguished Alumna

Marian High School is proud to honor Dunya Atisha, MD, FACS ’94 as its 2026 Distinguished Alumna. A nationally respected surgeon specializing in plastic surgery and breast reconstruction, Dr. Atisha will address the Class of 2026 at commencement this May.

The Distinguished Alumna Award recognizes graduates who demonstrate exceptional professional achievement and meaningful service while continuing to support Marian’s mission. Dr. Atisha exemplifies these qualities through both her clinical excellence and compassionate care.

After earning her medical degree from Michigan State University, Dr. Atisha completed seven years of general surgery training at the University of Iowa and a plastic surgery residency at Duke University. She went on to serve in leadership roles at Henry Ford Health, where her work in advanced breast reconstruction and lymphedema prevention has helped countless women heal both physically and emotionally.

Dr. Atisha credits her time at Marian with building the confidence and character that prepared her to succeed in a demanding field. “Marian gave me the courage to speak my mind and excel,” she says.

On Thursday, Marian held Candlelight, a beloved tradition that marks the passing of leadership from the senior class to the junior class and celebrates the enduring bond of Marian sisterhood. Centered on the theme from Matthew 5:16, “Your light must shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your heavenly Father,” the ceremony called students to lead with faith, compassion, and courage.
