Marian Students Host “Matcha Madness” to Benefit Hutch’s Heroes

Members of Project Care recently came together to host “Matcha Madness.” Students sold matcha drinks to raise funds for Hutch’s Heroes, a local organization that supports children facing life-threatening illnesses and their families. The event was made possible with generous support from Hudson’s Place and Percent Coffee

The idea for Match Madness came from Avery Marcy '27 whose own interest in matcha sparked a plan.

"I really enjoy making and drinking it, and I’ve noticed that a lot of students at Marian also drink matcha and bring it to school," she says. "Because it’s already something popular, I thought it would be a fun and easy way to bring people together while also raising money for charity."

Marcy selected Hutch's Heroes because she wanted to support a cause that helps people during difficult times.

"Hutch’s Heroes works to provide support and resources to children and families dealing with serious illnesses, and that mission really stood out to me," Marcy notes. "By selling matcha in the mornings at school, I hoped to raise money in a simple way that could still contribute to something meaningful."

All said, Marcy and fellow Project Care members sold more than 150 matchas raising $1,200.

Matcha Madness is one of many initiatives organized by Marian's Project Care members. The club meets monthly to coordinate Marian’s Christian service efforts, leading projects that serve the broader community. Throughout the year, students collect hygiene items for local shelters, provide stuffed animals for sick and homeless children, and assemble clothing and food for seniors, hospice patients, and mothers of unborn babies.

“Matcha Madness” is just one more example of Marian students putting their faith into action through service and compassion!
