Marian Students Shine at DECA State Competition, Jan Bodagh '27 Advances to National Competition

Marian students delivered an impressive performance at the recent DECA State Career Development Conference, joining top students from across Michigan to compete in a variety of business-focused events at Detroit’s Huntington Place.

Representing Marian with poise and professionalism, students competed in a range of events that challenged their critical thinking, presentation, and real-world problem-solving abilities. Through role-play scenarios, they demonstrated quick thinking and the ability to present thoughtful, well-reasoned solutions in real time.

Congratulations to our state finalists: Jan Bodagh ‘27, Melanie Frangie ‘27, Nilena Haibsh ‘28, Lizzy Plunkett ‘27, Claire Reaume ‘27, and Lila Shea ‘27. Jan will advance to the DECA International Career Development Conference, the pinnacle event for DECA members, taking place in Atlanta in late April.

Adding to the team’s success, Maria Burlingame ’28 and Sophia Pellegrino ’28 earned medals for top scores on DECA’s rigorous cluster exam, a 100-question assessment in areas such as marketing, finance, and entrepreneurship.

“We are incredibly proud of our students for the way they represented Marian at each level of DECA competitions,” says Claudine Denha, Marian’s DECA moderator. “Their dedication, preparation, and hard work were evident throughout each competition.”

Senior Kennedi Marsh chronicled in video the Marian team's experience at the DECA state competition. Check out those highlights here!
