Mech Warriors Earn Excellence in Engineering Award at States
This weekend, Marian & Brother Rice’s Mech Warriors FIRST Robotics Team wrapped up its season at Saginaw Valley State University, competing in the program’s 15th State Championship appearance.
In a historic moment for the team, the Mech Warriors earned their first-ever judged award at the state level, receiving the Excellence in Engineering Award. This prestigious honor recognizes a robot that exemplifies thoughtful design, with systems and components working together seamlessly to achieve outstanding performance.
The achievement is a testament to the team’s dedication, technical skill, and collaborative spirit throughout the season. We are incredibly proud of their hard work, perseverance, and commitment to excellence, and we look forward to all they will accomplish in the seasons ahead.

This past week, Marian students, faculty, and staff gathered for the first All-School Mass of the year, celebrated by our new chaplain, Fr. Karl Finkbeiner.

Marian’s first all-school assembly helped set the tone for a new year. To kick things off, sophomores, juniors, and seniors lined the main corridor to clap in the freshman class before heading into the auditorium. It was a sea of color with students wearing bright T-shirts representing one of Marian’s six Houses: Crown, Shield, Mary, Cross, Dove, and Flame.

One of Marian’s most special traditions officially began for the Class of 2030 this week as freshmen met their Big Sisters for the first time.

A Marian senior tradition brought a burst of color and lots of creativity to campus as members of the Class of 2027 gathered to paint their parking spots.

Marian High School joins the IHM Sisters in celebrating two women with special connections to Marian who are marking milestone Jubilees this year: Sister Lenore Pochelski, IHM, celebrating 60 years as a religious, and Sister Maxine Kollasch, IHM, celebrating 25 years.
For the IHM Sisters, Jubilees are a time to honor Sisters marking milestone anniversaries of religious life. This year, 20 IHM Sisters representing a combined 1,011 years of ministry were honored during a weekend of Jubilee festivities, including a special liturgy on Saturday, July 25.

Though his five years at Marian represent only a small chapter in a remarkable 48-year career, they are years he remembers fondly because of the students and colleagues who made Marian feel like home.
