Marian Forensics Team hosted and competed in the fifth official Detroit Catholic Forensic League tournament of the season at Marian High School on Saturday, March 22. Congratulations to Angelina AbdulNour, Angelina Asmar, Gina Azar, Lucille Clark, Mary Frangie, Melanie Frangie, Grace Gappy, Madelyn Hasani, Isabella Mansour, Kayden McKay, Kaitlyn Merritt, Molly Rudnick, and Zellie Sarafa for their performances in the categories of Extemporaneous Speaking, Oral Interpretation of Literature, Oratorical Declamation, and Original Oratory. We were excited that eight Marian entries earned top-six ribbons! In total, the team scored one first-place ribbon, one second-place ribbon, one third-place ribbon, three fourth-place ribbons, one fifth-place ribbon, and one sixth-place ribbon. Way to go, Mustangs!

eMpower Hour: A Panel Discussion with Sasha Compere and the Marian Rice Players

Episode 2 of eMpower Hour brings together Marian Rice Players with alumna Sasha Compère ’05—an actress, writer, and aspiring director/producer making waves in film and television! 

After earning a Business Administration degree from the University of Michigan’s Ross School of Business, Sasha worked at VH1 and the Oprah Winfrey Network before following her true passion for the dramatic arts. Inspired by her time with the Marian Rice Players, she pursued a full-time career in theatre, film, and television.

Congratulations to Catalina Colangelo van Meek, Jenell Gallozi, Madelyn Hasani, Isabella Mansour, Kaitlyn Merritt, Molly Rudnick, and Zellie Sarafa for their performances in the categories of Dramatic Performance, Extemporaneous Speaking, Oratorical Declamation, and Original Oratory. We were excited that six Marian entries earned top-six ribbons! The Marian Rice Mech Warriors FIRST Robotics Team have won the FIRST Impact Award for the first time in team history! The team kicked off their 25th competition season at Kettering University, where they ranked 7th out of 40 after 12 qualification matches and became the 5th alliance captain, making it to Match 10 in the double elimination bracket.

The FIRST Impact Award is the most prestigious honor in FIRST, recognizing the team that best exemplifies a model for others to follow and embodies the mission of FIRST. This award was established to keep the focus of the FIRST Robotics Competition on its ultimate goal: transforming culture by inspiring greater respect for science and technology while encouraging more young people to become future leaders in these fields.
