Forensics

The art of public speaking.

The mission of the Marian Forensics Team is to provide an opportunity for students to develop their communication skills through competitive performance in interpretive and public speaking categories.

Competition Categories

Team members and coaches start selecting, editing, and rehearsing performance pieces at the beginning of the school year. From January to April, students compete in their respective categories within the Detroit Catholic Forensic  League (DCFL) at Saturday tournaments hosted at local high schools. After being judged in three different rounds, awards are presented to the day’s top scorers. At the end of the season, high-achieving students may qualify for the annual National Catholic Forensic League (NCFL) tournament held during Memorial Day weekend.

Fast Fact

In 2023, Charlotte DuBay ’25 made Marian history as the first student to break to quarterfinals at the highly competitive NCFL Grand National Tournament, where she placed 22nd. Prior to Charlotte’s achievement, Kamryn Winchester ’23 ranked 30th after octofinals in 2021.
