Retreat Program

Retreats are a time for students to step back from their busy schedules and reflect on relationships with God, self and others.  Communal prayer time, group activities, discussion, and personal prayer time are included in all retreats.

Each year all Marian students participate in class retreats. Each retreat has a different concentration that allows participants to further explore their relationship with God and others as they mature in their faith development.

The freshmen take part in two retreats on campus, one to welcome them to Marian as part of their orientation process, and another in January to focus on building community.  The sophomores and juniors spend one retreat day off-site, and another at school further exploring important elements of Christian living and Gospel values.  The seniors are offered a dynamic overnight retreat that allows them to reflect on their faith journey as they begin to focus on the transition of their lives from high school to college.

Students may also choose to attend the nature retreat, “Walking with the Lord”, based on the teachings of Jesus that used simple imagery from the natural world to teach important lessons.   Each retreat helps to foster and develop students’ spiritual growth during the years they attend Marian.

Student Leadership Opportunities

Marian’s Campus Ministry Program empowers students to assist in the design and implementation of school liturgies, the student retreat program, and the school’s outreach projects.

Student members of the Pastoral Team help in liturgy planning and lead the school in daily prayer. Members of this team serve as lectors, extraordinary ministers of the Eucharist, servers, cantors, and greeters at all school liturgies.

Members of the Senior Retreat Team work with the Director of Ministry and Service to plan the seniors’ annual overnight retreat in the fall, and assist Campus Ministry with the two freshmen retreats.

Project Care is a group of Marian students who coordinate the school’s Christian outreach projects throughout the year. Special outreach collections for area charities are planned for the entire student body around Halloween, Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Easter, and many hands-on service projects are coordinated on campus by Project Care each semester.  The group also works with the Director of Ministry and Service to set up off-campus service projects on selected weekends during the year.
