Maintenance Associate Position

Position Title: Maintenance Associate

Reports To: Physical Plant Manager
Status: Full-Time, Non-Exempt
Schedule: Primarily Monday–Friday, as scheduled; occasional evenings or weekends as needed for school activities

Position Overview:

Under the direction of the Physical Plant Manager, the Maintenance Associate supports the daily operations and upkeep of Marian High School’s facilities. This individual helps ensure a safe, clean, and functional environment by assisting with maintenance tasks, building security, event setup, and routine repairs.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Assist with general maintenance and repair tasks across campus (e.g., light plumbing, painting, basic carpentry).
Support event setup and breakdown (e.g., moving tables, chairs, audio-visual equipment).
Help monitor and maintain building security (e.g., locking/unlocking doors, reporting safety concerns).
Provide support for snow removal, salting, and seasonal groundskeeping as directed.
Respond to facility-related needs promptly and professionally.
Collaborate with the Physical Plant Manager on preventative maintenance and special projects and other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

High school diploma or equivalent.
Prior experience in maintenance, custodial, or facility support preferred.
Ability to lift 50+ pounds, climb ladders, and perform physical labor.
Demonstrate a strong work ethic, dependability, and willingness to learn.
Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
Successfully complete a background check and Protecting God’s Children training through the Archdiocese of Detroit prior to employment.

Preferred Qualifications:

Basic knowledge of tools, equipment, and repair methods.
Flexibility to work occasional weekends or after-hours for special events.

Varsity Field Hockey Assistant Coach

Reports to: Head Varsity Field Hockey Coach, Athletic Director

Position Summary:

The Varsity Field Hockey Assistant Coach at Marian High School plays an integral role in the development and success of the varsity field hockey program. This position requires a dedicated coach who can help foster a competitive, faith-driven, and positive environment for the student-athletes. The assistant coach works alongside the Head Coach to implement practice strategies, game tactics, and overall team development, while emphasizing the importance of teamwork, discipline, and the core values of the Catholic faith.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in Coaching: Support the Head Coach in all aspects of coaching the Varsity Field Hockey team, including planning and conducting practices, implementing drills, and ensuring the development of individual players' skills and team strategies.
Game Day Support: Provide hands-on support during games by helping with warm-ups, in-game coaching, and adjustments to strategy based on game situations. Offer feedback and motivate players during breaks.
Player Development: Assist in the development of athletes’ technical skills (e.g., stick handling, shooting, passing) and tactical understanding of the game (e.g., formations, set plays, defensive strategies).
Team Leadership: Serve as a mentor and positive role model, emphasizing the values of teamwork, sportsmanship, and respect both on and off the field. Foster an inclusive and empowering environment for all athletes.
Communication: Maintain open lines of communication with players, parents, and other coaching staff. Help manage team schedules, practices, and events, ensuring smooth and effective coordination.
Catholic Values: Reinforce the school’s Catholic values of integrity, faith, and service. Help integrate the school’s mission into the team’s goals and culture.
Assisting with Team Logistics: Help manage team equipment, uniforms, and travel logistics for away games. Assist with setting up and breaking down for practices and games.
Scouting and Recruitment: Assist the Head Coach with scouting opposing teams and identifying potential recruitment opportunities to help maintain and build a competitive program.
Safety and Well-being: Ensure the physical and emotional safety of all players during practices and games, and assist in managing player injuries. Adhere to all safety guidelines and protocols.

Qualifications:

Prior experience in coaching field hockey, either at the high school or collegiate level (preferred).
Strong understanding of field hockey fundamentals, strategies, and tactics.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes, encouraging both individual and team growth.
Alignment with the Catholic faith and mission of Marian High School, with a commitment to fostering a respectful and supportive environment.
Ability to work collaboratively with the Head Coach and other staff members.
Ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, parents, and the broader Marian High School community.
First Aid and CPR certification preferred (or willingness to obtain).
Must pass a background check and complete any required child safety training.

Additional Information:

This position requires a time commitment for daily practices, games, and occasional weekend events, including overnight travel for tournaments.
This is a seasonal position, typically lasting from August to November, with possible extension depending on team success (e.g., playoffs).

JV Field Hockey Assistant Coach

Position Summary:

The JV Field Hockey Assistant Coach supports the Head Coach in all aspects of coaching and managing the junior varsity field hockey team. This position involves fostering a positive, competitive, and faith-centered environment for student-athletes. The assistant coach helps with practice planning, team development, and game strategy, while also emphasizing personal growth, teamwork, and Catholic values.

Key Responsibilities:

Assist in Practice Planning: Work closely with the Head Coach to prepare and execute practices that focus on skill development, strategy, and team cohesion.
Game Day Support: Assist the Head Coach in organizing and coaching during games, providing feedback and support to players during the course of the game.
Player Development: Help coach individual players in both technical skills (stick handling, passing, etc.) and tactical knowledge (offensive/defensive strategies, game awareness).
Mentorship: Serve as a role model to student-athletes, reinforcing the Catholic values of sportsmanship, respect, and dedication.
Team Management: Assist with team meetings, ensuring effective communication between coaches, players, and parents.
Player Safety: Ensure that players are following safety protocols during practices and games and address any injuries or concerns immediately.
Administrative Support: Assist with travel arrangements, equipment management, and other logistical responsibilities as needed.
Collaborate with Head Coach: Attend staff meetings, contribute to the team’s goals, and help maintain a positive relationship with the athletic department and school community.

Qualifications:

Prior coaching experience in field hockey (preferred but not required).
Knowledge of the rules and fundamentals of field hockey.
Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Ability to work collaboratively with other coaches, athletes, and staff.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Commitment to creating a positive and inclusive environment that promotes both athletic and personal growth.
