Four Marian senior athletes made college commitments when they recently signed national letters of intent. Rebekah Irwin signed to swim at Washington and Lee University, while Maria Kaschalk, Hannah Redoute, and Elaina Eckert agreed to play soccer at three different colleges. Maria signed with Troy University; Hannah signed with Western Michigan University, and Elaina signed with Marquette University.
Rebekah, daughter of Richard and Bobbie Irwin of Bloomfield Hills, will join the Washington and Lee swim team next year while studying business. A High Academic Achievement Award winner and the current Marian record holder in the 100 yard breaststroke, Rebekah is a member of the 2014 State Champion swim team and captain of the 2016 swim team which took second in the state. In addition, she is a member of National Honor Society, Ambassador Club, and her church youth group. She also participates in Marian missions trips.
“Marian played a large role in my success. Not only did my education motivate me to succeed, but my peers and teammates on Marian’s swim team pushed me to be my best,” said Rebekah.
Maria, daughter of John and Gina Kaschalk of Macomb, is looking forward to playing soccer and majoring in physical therapy next year at Troy University in Troy, AL. Maria, who plays club soccer for Vardar, is also a varsity basketball player. She is a member of National Honor Society and a High Academic Achievement Award winner.
“Marian has helped me become better with my time management and pushed me to become a better person both on and off the field,” said Maria.
Hannah, daughter of Bennett and Linda Redoute of Shelby Township, will be joining the soccer team at Western Michigan University next fall while studying business and accounting. A three-sport athlete, Hannah is a member of Marian’s varsity basketball and track teams in addition to playing on the 2016 National Champion Michigan Hawks soccer club.
“Marian helped me prepare for college academically and athletically,” Hannah said. “I also learned good time management skills.”
Elaina, daughter of Glenn and Paula Eckert of Warren, will join the soccer team at Marquette University in Milwaukee, WI. Elaina is a member of National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and SADD Club at Marian. She volunteers her time coaching soccer and is All State and All Catholic soccer in addition to playing club soccer with Vardar.
“I am thankful for all the teachers who pushed me to do my best, and for the Marian soccer family,” said Elaina. “Marian has given me the tools and support necessary to achieve my goals both on the field and in the classroom.”
