Fr. Tim Wezner, Marian chaplain, presided at an all-school Mass where members of the student pastoral team led the liturgy’s readings and served as Eucharistic ministers, and students in the Liturgical Choice provided the music. Forty five juniors and seniors who were traveling on three week-long mission trips to Central America in February received a special blessing at the Mass. On another day, 10 students represented Marian at the archdiocesan Catholic Schools Week Mass at Blessed Sacrament Cathedral.
Marian student government leaders made a banner celebrating Catholic Schools Week, and student artists displayed their original paintings, drawings, digital designs, pottery, and sculpture in a special art exhibit. Spanish Honor Society members traveled to Detroit’s Neinas Elementary School where they worked with bilingual students in a variety of activities – frosting cookies, making Valentines, reading bilingual stories, and creating a craft. Marian also brought winter gear, including hats, scarves, gloves, and boots, for the Neinas students.
Also during Catholic Schools Week, faculty, staff, and administration were treated to a special lunch provided by the Mothers’ Club, and students received vouchers for a treat of their choice in the student dining area. Faculty and staff members also received a brass Marian bookmark as a gift. The week concluded with Mardi Gras ’18, the school’s largest fundraising event of the year, sponsored by the Mothers’ and Dads’ Clubs.
