Marian Benefit Evening Roaring into 2020

Marian alumnae Jennifer Ureel Waechter and Patti Malleis Brozek chaired the team of dedicated volunteers who worked on Marian Benefit Evening, Roaring into 2020, which was celebrated on February 8 at the Birmingham Athletic Club (BAC). Black and gold feathers and chains adorned the club as guests, many in a celebratory 1920s outfit, came to enjoy an evening with friends and help raise money for Marian High School.
The evening started with a special welcome gift to the first fifty guests. These gift bags included a bottle of Gypsy Vodka, Drench Salad Dressing, a Marian Yeti, and various gift cards to local businesses. Marian volunteers gave tours of our silent auction to a record number of people in attendance. Over 300 guests sipped on a 1920s Mint Juleps and were encouraged to enjoy a strolling dinner before the live auction started at 8 PM.
Guests moved throughout the BAC where the silent auction and raffles were prominently displayed. More than 120 silent auction items led to competitive bidding and over $34,000 in support of Marian!
The raffle items were also a huge hit as lucky winners took home a beautiful YSL clutch, a wine lot worth over $2,000, and a $1,000 shopping spree to the Somerset Collection with a personal shopper. The three raffles raised $15,500.
The live auction began at 8 PM and offered wonderful trips, beautiful furs, and exciting experiences as guests enjoyed slices of pizza. The live auction raised $24,700. Next, Sr. Lenore Pochelski, IHM, Marian Head of School took to the stage for her “Raise the Paddle” initiative. The “last paddle” bidding for two Elton John concert tickets proved to be exciting and profitable for Marian’s science program as the total raised was $34,000! Profits from Roaring into 2020 will also go toward tuition assistance and scholarships.
The evening continued with plenty of dancing and fun as everyone enjoyed the music of Dr. Swift while snacking on late night sliders and fries. Donuts from Dunkin’ Donuts and the Koza Family capped off the evening in a delicious way!
Roaring into 2020 was a great success, with fun had by all, thanks to the help of so many people, including volunteers from the Mothers’ and Dads’ Clubs, along with added support from Marian’s hard-working faculty, staff, and student volunteers.
