Marian Senior Sheds Light on Global Poverty

Amina Thompson ’23 organized and emceed an Oxfam Hunger Banquet on June 12th at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Royal Oak. More than 70 guests were treated to a simple meal while learning about the negative impact of food injustice across our planet. The event shed light not only on global poverty, but also on poverty right here in our tri-county area. She reminded guests about how we all have the same basic needs, but it is the product of our environment and circumstances – where we live and our culture – that sets us apart.

Oxfam is a global organization that fights inequality to end poverty and injustice. They offer lifesaving support in times of crisis and advocate for economic justice, gender equality, and climate action. They demand equal rights and equal treatment so that everyone can thrive, not just survive.
