Marian Acts of Christian Service

Marian Acts in Christian Service (MACS), the Christian service component of Marian’s curriculum, is a requirement for graduation. This program calls students to explore their talents and to discover how they can use these talents to better this world and the lives of others in the metropolitan Detroit community.

Marian students are known as dedicated and caring volunteers at a variety of community organizations. In many cases, students continue to be active volunteers long after the required MACS service hours are completed. The Class of 2017 performed more than 10,000 service hours through the MACS program.

Community Outreach

Throughout the year, Marian’s classes, clubs, athletic teams, and other school organizations sponsor many outreach projects. During the 2016-2017 school year, students raised and donated over $34,000 in cash, goods, and services to 43 organizations and funds.

Angels’ Place, Capuchin Ministries, John Dingell VA Medical Center, Most Holy Trinity School, Mother and Unborn Baby Care, and St. Christine Food Pantry were among the several hospitals, schools, soup kitchens, rescue missions, and other non-profit organizations in the Detroit metropolitan area which were served by Marian students.

Each year students raise funds by obtaining pledges and walking a six-mile route through nearby neighborhoods in Marian’s annual Walkathon. The two organizations to benefit from the 2017 Walkathon were OATS (Offering Alternative Therapy with Smiles) in Clarkston and Angels' Place in Southfield.

In addition, countless hours, dollars, and donations were made to Marian’s Benefit Evening, Spring Raffle, Open House, Field Day, as well as to school plays, concerts, athletics, retreats, and club projects.  Student clubs and organizations also make donations to Marian’s tuition assistance and endowment funds through their fundraisers throughout the school year.
