Marian Senior National Letters of Intent

Marian High School senior Maria Askounis recently signed a national letter of intent to play soccer at Carnegie Mellon University this fall.
Maria, daughter of Annette and Dean Askounis of Bloomfield Hills, has accepted an offer to join Carnegie Mellon University’s soccer team this fall and will attend the Tepper School of Business. Maria is a four-year player for the Marian Varsity Soccer team, including two Division 2 State Championship teams, 2018 and 2019. Her accomplishments include MHSAA All State 2019 and 2020, and All-District 2018 and 2019 and All-League in 2019. Maria’s other sports involvement include travel soccer with Vardar Soccer and Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) Soccer and 3-year Varsity Field Hockey player where she earned All State Academic Team 2020.
 
Maria is active in co-curricular activities at Marian, including National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, Ambassador Club, All-school Board, and a co-founder of the Marian Broadcast Club. She also traveled to Guatemala for the 2020 International Samaritan mission trip.
 
Outside of Marian, Maria volunteered to mentor underserved students at the Sarah Fisher Center in Detroit. She also founded the American Girl Doll project at the Center, by refurbishing and donating gently used dolls as Christmas gifts for the children.
