Two Marian Seniors Sign National Letters of Intent
Two Marian High School seniors recently signed national letters of intent to play their sports in college next year. Shannon Kennedy will play on Michigan State University’s (MSU) golf team and Olivia DeConinckwill play soccer for Bucknell University.
Shannon, daughter of Lyn Kennedy of Birmingham and Ted Kennedy of Beverly Hills, will join MSU’s golf team this fall and plans to major in business. Her golf accomplishments include All-state honors for all four years on the Mustang’s golf team, a Dream Team honoree for the last two years, and being named Miss Golf 2020 by the Michigan Interscholastic Golf Coaches Association. While at Marian, she won individual state titles three times and lead the Mustangs to state titles for 2019 and 2020.
Shannon is prepared for the challenges ahead at MSU. “Marian has taught me how to work with others and how to treat others with respect. Marian has given me the tools I need to be successful in the years to come,” she said.
Olivia, daughter of Lisa and Derik DeConinckof Bloomfield Hills, is looking forward to playing soccer and studying biomedical engineering at Bucknell in Lewisburg, PA next fall. She has played on Marian’s varsity soccer team for three years. Her accomplishments include: MHSAA DII State Champions for 2018 and 2019, All-State 2020, and All-district and All-league in 2019. She was team captain for 2018. Olivia’s other sports involvements include travel soccer with Vadar Soccer and Elite Clubs National League (ECNL) Soccer. Her participation in ECNL earned her Midwest Player to Watch U15-U17 and 2020 Ohio Valley Conference Selection Program. Olivia is also a member of the National Honor Society, Spanish Honor Society, and Marian’s Pastoral team. She earned a Certificate of Merit from the Society of Women Engineers in 2020, and Scholastic All-Catholic award in 2018, 2019, and 2020.
Olivia values her time at Marian. “Marian has laid the academic, athletic, and spiritual foundation to prepare me for the next level of my development,” she commented.
Advanced Placement Government Seniors and We the People State Showcase students Lena McKenney, Hannah Kaczmarek, Katie Freese, and Jen Suan traveled to the State Capitol on March 14th to represent Marian in celebrating Michigan’s official inaugural “Civic Learning Week 2024.”
