Alumnae Advises Marian for Safe Return to Pre-pandemic Class Scheduling
Marian alumna, Alison Troy Tribble, MD '99, epidemiologist on the faculty of Mott Children's Hospital at the University of Michigan (U of M) offered mitigation advice to the school on a Zoom question and answer session recently. Faculty and staff were provided with insights on assessing and mitigating the risks associated with the school’s quarter four scheduling format change. Marian has endured many scheduling adjustments to remain in compliance with the Oakland County Health Department mandates over the course of the 2020-21 school year.
Safely moving from an Adapted Face-to-Face Format block schedule to the traditional full-time, in-person instruction for all students, presents numerous challenges for the faculty and staff. Dr. Tribble offered valuable advice on how to safely transition to a pre-pandemic traditional seven-classes a day schedule, answered questions on best practices in virus mitigation in the school setting, and gave examples of how U of M’s health systems are currently keeping their staff and patients safe during this pandemic.
This is not the first time Dr. Tribble has offered her time and expertise to the school. In 2016 she was the keynote speaker at Marian’s yearly STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math) Night, where she advised students on what a future in the medical professions might look like.
Alison Troy Tribble, MD was Valedictorian for Marian’s Class of 1999. Dr. Tribble received her bachelor's degree from the University of Notre Dame and her medical degree from Duke University. She trained in pediatrics at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore, MD. Following residency, she worked as a pediatric hospitalist and then served as Pediatric Chief Resident at Hopkins. She completed fellowship training in pediatric infectious diseases at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and joined the faculty at the University of Michigan in 2015.
Currently, Dr. Tribble leads Mott's participation in a national pediatric antimicrobial stewardship collaborative, SHARPS, which conducts multicenter research on antibiotic use and provides a venue for institutions to share best practices and learn from one another. She is also a co-leader of the Solutions for Patient Safety national antimicrobial stewardship initiative, which seeks to establish and expand antimicrobial stewardship efforts in children's hospitals across the country.
Advanced Placement Government Seniors and We the People State Showcase students Lena McKenney, Hannah Kaczmarek, Katie Freese, and Jen Suan traveled to the State Capitol on March 14th to represent Marian in celebrating Michigan’s official inaugural “Civic Learning Week 2024.”
