Testing Program

Each step in Marian’s counseling curriculum prepares our students to achieve their college goals.  We offer a comprehensive standardized testing program to prepare our students to be successful on college admission tests.  Our students begin their preparation with the pre-ACT exam as underclasswomen.  During junior year, students have the opportunity to take a practice ACT test, and then will take the ACT college entrance exam in spring of their junior year with their classmates at Marian.

Students also have the opportunity to practice for the SAT college entrance exam by taking the PSAT test both in sophomore and junior year.  The junior  PSAT may also qualify students for the National Merit Scholarship Program awarding college scholarships to high scorers.

College Preparation

Beginning with the freshman year, our focus is on preparing students for college by assisting them in creating an electronic four-year course plan using the Naviance system.  Students will update their plan each year as they learn more about their strengths and interests through several personality and career inventories they take on Naviance.  Starting on our College and Career Exploration Day in the fall of freshman year, students will also begin to learn about college options through a variety of interactive activities and practice using the college search features on Naviance.

At Marian, we also offer the services of a college counselor who works individually with students and parents in the college admission process.  The counselor also arranges networking and informational programs at Marian with top colleges and universities to provide our students with numerous opportunities to find their best-fit colleges.

Beyond High School

Students are encouraged (and parents are welcome!) to visit the College and Career Resource Room located in the Marian Counseling Department.  Using technology and our collection of books and periodical resources our students are provided with information about colleges, college search resources, and scholarships, as well as career information and ACT/SAT preparation packets.

Marian is the site for an annual MACRAO-sponsored College Night when approximately 80 colleges are represented.  In addition, many colleges and universities schedule individual visits to Marian’s campus during the school year.
