The spirit of the holiday season came alive at the Marian and Brother Rice Christmas Concert, where the musical talents of both schools were showcased. The joint concert, new this year, highlights the opportunities for collaboration among  Brother Rice and Marian students through our schools' shared campus initiatives.

The concert opened with a lively performance of "Swingin' Jingle Bells" by Patrick Glenn Harper,  presented by the Brother Rice Drumline. The infectious rhythm and energy from the drumline set the stage for an evening filled with holiday cheer.

The Marian Rice Concert Choir then took the spotlight, delivering a heartwarming rendition of "Christmas Songs of Joy" by Joseph M. Martin and a delightful medley of "Happy Holiday/White Christmas". Marian offers Concert Choir as an honors level course for students auditioning for the Michigan School Vocal Music Association (MSVMA) Honors Choir and participating in the MSVMA Solo & Ensemble Festival. Concert Choir students are exposed to vocal technique, basic theory, singing in foreign languages, and a cappella choral pieces.

Marian and Brother Rice Violin Students showcased their talent with a touching performance of "Mary, Did You Know?" by Mark Lowry and Buddy Greene. Students enrolled in Guitar I followed with a spirited rendition of "Rockin' Around the Christmas Tree".

The Faculty Choir, a Marian tradition, presented a heartfelt rendition of "Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas", bringing the warmth of the season to the stage. Concert Ensemble then captivated the audience with their rendition of "The Christmas Song". Taught at Brother Rice and open to Marian students, Concert Ensemble exposes instrumental students to techniques in proper tone, pitch, rhythm, posture, and dynamic.

A highlight of the evening included the performance of "Ubi Caritas" by Bryan Sharpe and "Believe" from The Polar Express by the Marian Melodies, Marian's female vocal ensemble.

The Brother Rice Jazz Band continued to enchant the crowd with their renditions of "Christmas Time is Here" by Vince Guaraldi, "What Child Is This" arranged by Mark Taylor, and "Auld Lang Syne" arranged by Ryan Fraley. The jazz-infused holiday tunes added a unique and lively touch to the concert, showcasing the versatility of the two schools' music programs.

The grand finale, "A Very Merry Christmas," brought all performers together in a grand chorus and instrumental ensemble, symbolizing unity and shared joy between the two schools. The audience, composed of supportive parents and friends, also joined in a Christmas sing-along, creating a sense of community and shared celebration.

Special thanks were extended to Amy Blevins, Marian's Vocal Arts Director, and Anna Bosler Santeiu, Brother Rice's Music Director, for their leadership and guidance. Additionally, appreciation was expressed for Kelly Davis, in charge of lights and sound, and Collaborative Pianist Carla Likich, whose contributions were integral to the success of the evening.
