Retreat Begins the 2019-2020 School Year at Marian
On Monday, August 12, Sr. Lynne Moldenhauer, IHM and Marian alumna Karen DuBay Holt ’91 addressed the faculty and staff of Marian High School during their annual retreat to open the new school year.
With the theme of the retreat being “respect”, Sr. Lynne spoke to Marian’s Core Educational Belief that states: “We believe in the development of a Christian community that witnesses to a profound respect for each human being and an acceptance of all persons”.
Her words to the faculty and staff incorporated scripture and contemporary cultural issues, allowing everyone in the audience to consider her/his own attitudes and behaviors in light of what it means to be a person of respect, particularly when facing challenging interpersonal dialogue with our students or constituents.
Karen spoke about dealing with difficult people and challenging situations in a respectful manner. She shared specific techniques she uses in court as well as her everyday life.
After Marian, Karen graduated from the University of Notre Dame with a Bachelor of Arts in Government and International Affairs and subsequently attended law school there as well, where she earned her Juris Doctor. Karen currently serves as a Magistrate in Rochester Hills, MI.
Karen also served on the Marian Board of Directors and was chosen as the 2013 Distinguished Alumna. She and her husband Brian are the parents of three children.
